Guild Level: 11
SP Cost: 50 spell points
Skill: Phytogenesis
Syntax: barkskin [status|off]

At a particular point in his or her training, a druid learns to directly imbue oneself with the natural protective powers of Astaria's trees, forming a thick layer of bark over the druid's skin.

While the bark repels a fair amount of physical damage, the barkskin makes the druid more vulnerable to fire damage. As the druid becomes more proficient in the phytogenesis lores, the barkskin's effectiveness increases, but so does its weakness to fire.

To conjure forth a barkskin, merely use: "barkskin". At any time, you may query the status of the barkskin or dispel it from your body.

When imbuing yourself with a barkskin, a more powerful effect can be acquired by doing so when present in one of the realm's many forests (or other flora-heavy environments); this boost can then be enhanced if the barkskin is conjured during Astaria's Spring or Summer months and a sprig of mistletoe is employed.

Commentary

Barkskin is the most widely used druidic protective ward. Both the percentage of damage the ward will absorb and the maximum cumulative damage the ward will absorb increase with increased phytogenesis skill.

Barkskin may be cast, uncast and recast instantly.
