SP Cost: No spell points to command, 75 spell points to reincarnate
Skill: Animism
Syntax: See below

Upon reaching level 8 within the druidic circle, a novice druid embarks on his or her first great journey into the natural world, seeking a suitable lifelong animal companion.

Selection of a lifelong companion is one of the most important days in a druid's life, for this animal will accompany a druid forever. Selection of your companion is a permanent choice and not one to be taken lightly. You will both grow together and learn from each other's mistakes and successes.

Consult the following lore documents for more information:

'lore animals' - A list of each animal you could select.
'lore befriend' - How to select an animal companion.
'lore animal_details' - How to control and train your companion.
'lore animal_death' - What happens if your companion dies.

Commentary

The choice of an animal companion is a very important one for a druid, since each type has advantages and disadvantages. You may 'ask fionntann about animals' and 'ask fionntan about <animal>' for a description of each animal.

Companions start at level 1 and can advance to level 36, but not more than 5 levels above their druid at any given time. Companion levels require less experience and no money in order to advance. As with adventurers, companions become stronger as they increase in level and deal more damage and are more accurate in combat.

After the binding ritual, every companion is permanent. There is no way for a druid to release his or her companion and choose another.
