Level: 10
Skill: Sanctity
Syntax: Consecrate <weapon>
Cost: 50

Weapons are an important part of a Paladin's life, and having the best weapon possible can make a big difference. Usually, Paladins will say a short prayer over a weapon before using it (or anoint it with holy water) in the rite of consecration. If Artrimas is pleased, He will bless the weapon temporarily, allowing it to share the paladin's aura of virtue and righteousness, and making it more damaging to those who do not follow the path of light.

note: If holy water is present in one's inventory, it will be used to bolster the effects of the rite of consecration but may be consumed.

Commentary

This spell does 3 damage on hit. So each time your weapon hits 3 holy damage will be added only against targets who are not good aligned. It lasts for 1 hit for every point in sanctity.

Holy water adds 10 hits to the duration, and can be found on the bishop in the NW tower in Astaria, or can be purchased from a vendor in the Guild. The one from the bishop has only one use, the one from the vendor has 5 uses and costs 3 crown.

If you are Sanctity specialized and use consecrate with holy water you'll be able to "hallow" your weapon. This will double consecrate damage as well as restore 2-3 sp randomly when consecrate hits. I would venture to say that it happens 50-75% of the time.

Valyn has been investing some time on consecrate and Delius helped him do some testing. Here's a summary of what Delius posted in the guild:

  • The Hammer of the Dwarves (HoD) is a holy weapon if you are a dwarf and if it is identified (i.e. not when it is an unID'd polished war hammer).
  • When a Sanctity specialist Consecrates a weapon with holy water the (hallowed) tag will appear in WHITE when it is non holy and YELLOW when it is a holy weapon. This should help specialists determine what weapons will get the most benefit from Consecrate.
