A long time ago, in the elder days of the Kingdom, a group of the most powerful adventurers and magicians created the first Astarian clan, and endowed its members with strange and wondrous powers not previously known to mortals. For many years the members of this clan controlled the kingdom, but as they aged and grew separate, the clan which they created foundered and broke apart into separate groups, each endowed with many of the original clan's powers, and yet no longer united in their aim, indeed, often antagonistic to one another. Their battles form the basis of many of the early legends of Astarian, and the struggle for pre-eminence continues, as new splinter clans are formed (or destroyed) as time goes on. Few know how these splinter clans are formed, and this secret is well guarded by those that do. It is known though, that the overlord holds much power and influence, and to a large extent, this power is naturally dependent upon the number and loyalty of his clan members. It is told that clan members are able to communicate with each other telepathically, and even sense where their brethren are at all times. Some rumors have whispered that their souls are linked, allowing them to assist each other in times of extreme need. Further tales have hinted that clan members know where their fellows are at all times, and may be able to come to each other's aid when desperate times arrive. The complicated social and political lifestyle of clan members can be filled with joy and success, or death and destruction. Do not enter this realm of society without careful consideration.
