With hair, skin, and eyes the color of oceans, lakes, and waves, Nereids, as a water spirit, may choose much of their own appearance. Born from water, their natural translucence sometimes appears ghostly. Nereids retain dexterity and intellect high enough to navigate vast oceans and intricate rivers, but their natural affinity with water leaves them scant use for strength.

Little is understood about Nereid society. Many sailors have followed a Nereid's song to destruction or their calls through storms.

Though Nereids can join the elementalists, there is a small restriction: They are barred from choosing the element of fire as their primary specialization, thus they cannot choose the synergies of light or magma.
