Helpfile

Guild Level: 20
SP Cost: 125 sp/ep
Skill: Multiple-attack, Critical
Syntax: frenzy

All who are wise fear this violent attack only possible to the highest and best trained fighters. Instead of concentrating on a single foe, the fighter uses all his or her skill and rages toward all living beings in an area.

The elite among fighters, those best skilled in the art of hitting critically, can concentrate even in this state of fury, and attempt to strike a vital part of the body of their enemies, sometimes even disabling them momentarily.

The effectiveness of this attack depends upon the fighter's strength, constitution, quality of the weapon, and multiple attack skill.

Note that this attack will render the fighter slightly more vulnerable for a short time as their body recovers from the intense strain of this feat.

Commentary

When you go into a frenzy, several changes occur to your body. In game terms, this means: Lowered attack and multiple-attack skills, significantly lowered defense skill for several rounds, and a continuing drain on your ep for a bit longer than the lowered skills. Note that since parry relies on your defense skill, frenzy will make a newly cast parry less effective, in addition to generally making you much easier to hit. Perhaps the most effective use of frenzy, then, is to frenzy, then leave the room after it has gone off, wait for the timer, and repeat as necessary until your foes are dead (which, really, shouldn't be long). Because of these ongoing detriments, frenzy should be used sparingly or not at all when simply going toe-to-toe with a big opponent, especially if it's not a group.

On a fun side note, if frenzy goes off with no opponents in the room, you punch yourself. If you receive the message "In the face" or "In the face. Repeatedly." you will create a pool of blood, just like the Druids' bobcat companion does.

Along with the berserk feat of the fighter, drinking a flask of berserker mead removes the "cooldown timer" of both frenzy and berserk, allowing each to be re-cast if you have the sp and ep to do so.
